 BEFORE...
Released in 1983, "The Outiders" was based on a book of the same title by author S. E. Hinton and was directed by Francis Ford Coppola of "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now" fame.
The film was about two groups of young men, the "Greasers" and the "Socs", who were continually fighting against each other.
The stars of the film included Ralph Macchio, Tom Cruise, Emilio Estevez, C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze and Rob Lowe.

 AFTER...
Ralph Macchio, who played Johnny Cade, went onto play the lead role in the "Karate Kid" films. He also went on to appear in films such as "Crossroads" and "My Cousin Vinny" and is now married with 2 children.
Tom Cruise, who played Steve Randle, went on to star in "Risky Business" and "All The Right Moves" before finding worldwide fame starring in "Top Gun" and going on to become one of the most famous and successful actors in the world.
Emilio Estevez, who played Keith 'Two-Bit' Matthews, starred in a number of hit movies in the 1980s including "The Breakfast Club", "Young Guns" and "St. Elmo's Fire". In 1992 he married singer Paula Abdul, though they got divorced just 2 years later. He still appears in films today and in 2005 is due to star in "The Mighty Ducks 4".
C. Thomas Howell, who played Ponyboy Curtis, was considered for the role of Marty McFly in "Back To The Future" but lost out to Michael J. Fox. He still appears regularly in films today.
Matt Dillon, who played Dallas Winston, has gone on to appear in a number of successful films such as "Drugstore Cowboy" and "There's Something About Mary".
Patrick Swayze, who played Darrel Curtis, went on to star in hit films including "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost" and still acts today. He reportedly turned down 6 million dollars to reprise his role of Johnny Castle in "Dirty Dancing".
Rob Lowe, who played Sodapop Curtis, went onto appear in many films, including "St. Elmo's Fire" with his "Outsiders" co-star Emilio Estevez. In 1988 he was involved in a scandal where he was sentenced to community service after being caught on tape having sex with an underage girl. In the 1990s he went onto to have several successful television roles, especially in the hit show "The West Wing", as well as appearing in the films "Wayne's World" and the "Austin Powers" series.
In 1990 Francis Ford Coppola was the executive produced on a television series of "The Outsiders" which builds on the original fim. This included David Arquette in his first acting role, as well as Billy Bob Thornton and Michael Madson. There is currently a petition for this to be released on DVD.
S. E. Hinton's book "The Outsiders" is still read and studied in many schools today.
